Slime Mold Culture
Our Slime Mold Cultures are innoculated in our laboratory with Physarum polycephalum and fed on a diet of sterilized oats. Slime mold are eukaryotic organisms in the kindom Protista. Generally, slime molds feed upon bacteria, algae, yeast, fungi, and decaying matter. When you receive your slime mold culture, it will be in its active plasmodial form. Simply watch it overtake the oats in the petri dish until all oats are colonized. At this point, if you wish, you can open the petri dish and nestle it under your leaf litter in a moist portion of your vivarium. The slime mold will eventually leave the dish in search of microorganisms to consume. The slime mold is harmless to your animals and clean up crew, but will seek out bacteria, fungi, and algae to consume, assisting in tank maintenance. From time to time, you may see your new protist friend climbing the glass of your vivarium and can observe it on the hunt for its miniscule prey.
Cultured Slime Mold – Free of contaminants and laboratory grown. Totally safe for vivaria with livestock.
