Vibrio Fischeri is a biolumescent marine bacteria best known for its symbiotic relationship with the bobtail squid. This bacteria has been cultured on a special nutrient agar medium enhancing its bioluminescent properties and providing the proper nutrients for survival. These will grow and bioluminesce for up to a month.
This photo was achieved using a 15s long exposure to enhance the brightness of the bacteria. The bacteria will begin growing at the innoculation point and will grow to the edges of the agar plate. It will seem dim at first but will grow brighter as it more fully colonizes the agar. Turn off all light sources and allow your eyes to adjust for about 1 minute to be able to fully appreciate the beauty of the bacteria.
These agar plates are innoculated in our lab/clean room and are guaranteed to be free of contamination. Do not open the petri dish or the culture will be contaminated with undesireable bacteria and fungi. Allow to fully colonize and enjoy the bioluminescence for up to a month or longer depending upon storage conditions.
You will receive 1 sealed and innoculated petri dish.
